For most clients, transactions involving real estate, regardless whether it is residential or commercial real estate, involve the single most-valuable asset owned by the client. As such, it is important that the client is well represented. And, while real estate agents and brokers are one form of representation in real estate transactions, agents and brokers are not trained to spot thorny legal issues that may be lurking in a transaction. And, more- frequently than ever, clients are conducting real estate sales without the help of a licensed agent or broker. Such transactions are commonly referred to as being “For Sale By Owner” or “FSBO.” Regardless whether the client is represented by an agent or broker, or if it is a “FSBO” transaction, an experienced attorney can help ensure that your transaction follows all legal principles and requirements guiding the transaction, that you fully-understand the transaction, that you are not taking any unreasonable risks, and that you are otherwise fully-protected.
If you are involved in a real estate transaction of any kind, and regardless whether you are the seller or the buyer, do not be “penny wise and pound foolish.” Whether it is my office, or that of another attorney, be sure to have an experienced real estate attorney review all aspects of the transaction, including preparation or review of sale documents, and proper closing. I have been involved in hundreds of real estate transactions, from the simplest sale/purchase of a small home, to the sale of million-dollar businesses. Please contact me if you would like to arrange for a consultation about your specific real estate matter.
